Line Drawing, Solo Exhibition, 2008

British Trade and Culture Office, Taipei, Taiwan

1st April 2008 - 30th June 2008

Most of the work on display here was created during a residency at Taipei Artists’ Village in Autumn 2007. The extensive use of maps, especially street and underground railway maps, draws considerable inspiration from Susan’s stay in Taiwan. It once more invites the viewer to consider the question of identity, while also encouraging us to look for art in the most unlikely and everyday places – millions of people use such maps on a daily basis with scarcely a second thought.

Susan’s residency in Taipei came under the auspices of the Taiwan-UK. Artists’ Fellowships Program and is an excellent example of UK-Taiwan co-operation in the arts. I am therefore delighted that the British Trade & Cultural Office has been able to host this exhibition – the first to make use of the public area in the new offices we moved into in January this year. Susan’s meticulous and detailed work provides a contrast to the spacious, minimalist design of the offices themselves.
