Most of the work on display here was created during a residency at Taipei Artistsí Village in Autumn 2007. The extensive use of maps, especially street and underground railway maps, draws considerable inspiration from Susanís stay in Taiwan. It once more invites the viewer to consider the question of identity, while also encouraging us to look for art in the most unlikely and everyday places Ė millions of people use such maps on a daily basis with scarcely a second thought.
Susanís residency in Taipei came under the auspices of the Taiwan-UK. Artistsí Fellowships Program and is an excellent example of UK-Taiwan co-operation in the arts. I am therefore delighted that the British Trade & Cultural Office has been able to host this exhibition Ė the first to make use of the public area in the new offices we moved into in January this year. Susanís meticulous and detailed work provides a contrast to the spacious, minimalist design of the offices themselves.
