November – 30th December 2007.
This was a part of a Visiting Arts Residency called the ‘Taiwan-England Artists Fellowship Programme’. Supported by the British Council, Arts Council of England and The Council for Cultural Affairs, Taiwan, the residency ran from 30th September- 22nd December 2007.
The body of work on show by Stockwell called Line consisted of an installation of free hanging scroll drawings and wall based paper pieces all loosely based on the theme of maps and mapping. The works derive from her investigation into the transportation and mapping systems of Taiwan and other Asian cities, as well as her home city of London. They employ traditional craft techniques such as paper-cutting and sewing, and local materials such as rice paper, calligraphy paper and maps. As in many of her previous works, transformation is its profound theme.
This body of work Line is currently being developed further and will be exhibited at the British Trade and Culture Office in Taipei from 4th April to June 2008 www.btco.org.tw . See Exhibition Line. There will be an accompanying catalogue called Line. For more information and copies of the catalogue please contact the artist or firstname.lastname@example.org
