The Pillow Song: Opera Set

Opera Set. Susan designed the set and lighting for 'The Pillow Song'. Made from large sheets of hanging white muslin. The musicians were hidden in the set and the singer moved amongst it. The layering, movement and changing lighting assisted in telling the story. 'The Pillow Song' was composed by Paul Alan Barker for the Modern Music Theatre Troupes 1994 production of this chamber opera after Sei Shonagan based on 'The Pillow Book' a story about the life of a tenth Century Japanese Concubine. Here shown at The Purcell Rooms, South Bank Centre, London. Toured to the Hawth Crawley and Carlshalton Theatre.
